The situation
An investor came in with a working list of questions and priorities about a healthcare company under consideration — company-supplied materials (roadmap, diligence decks, notes) plus one or more discovery calls where I could request specific artifacts. The hard part wasn't reading the deck; it was separating what the roadmap claimed from what the evidence in hand actually supported, on a timeline that didn't allow for a slow, open-ended audit.
What I did
I worked the material into a claim/evidence/risk view — every claim in the data room checked against what was actually provided, with gaps and unsupported claims called out explicitly rather than smoothed over. Findings and the resulting investment-relevant risks were synthesized and linked directly back to the evidence behind them, so the investment committee could see not just the conclusion but what it stood on.
What they walked away with
The investor left with more than a confidence check on the investment — the same synthesis surfaced specific opportunities in the CEO's own roadmap worth raising at the next board meeting, so the value showed up on both sides of the table. Some engagements wrapped in two days; others ran a couple of weeks when more artifact-gathering was warranted — either way, the deliverable stayed directly usable by the investment committee, not a document that needed translation first.
